There are now four trails, including a newly (early 2009) created interpretive trail. As noted, this trail is under development – the trail is physically in place but interpretive pamphlets and signage are not yet in place. This new trail follows Lois Wishart way in some sections.

The Short Trail follows Deer Creek from the Service Entrance to the Saw Mill.

The Homestead Trail follows the south side of the mill pond from the public parking area to the mill.

Lois Wishart Way, named in honour of a long time supporter of the O'Hara mill site, starts at the public parking area and goes past the Picnic Shelter and around the North side of the Mill Pond to a point near the Log School House.

See the flora and fauna section below for some of the things that have been cited along these trails.

PLEASE NOTE: Traversal of Lois Wishart Way, from the public parking area to the Log School House, requires fording Deer Creek above the Mill Pond. It is normally a very easy crossing, with stepping stones closely spaced, however during Spring runoff and some heavy rainfall events, it is not possible to cross the creek safely and sometimes not possible at all. You will not become trapped on the trail but you should be prepared to back track if necessary, especially in Spring.

How to Get to the O’Hara Mill Homestead

The O'Hara Mill Homestead is located midway between Toronto and Ottawa along Highway 7. Turn north on O'Hara Road, which is just west of Highway 62, turn west at Mill Road and watch for the signs on the north side of the road. Alternatively, take Highway 62 north from Highway 7 and turn west onto Mill Road.

Signage pointing the way is now located on Highways 7 and 62 as well as near the intersection of O'Hara and Mill Roads.

The O'Hara Mill Homestead is very easy to get to from any of Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa and, of course, all points in between. Once you get there, there is much to see and do, including hiking any or all of the several trails.

Visitor’s Center Furniture

Dave Little is, in addition to all of his tasks as Chairman of the Board of Management, also spending lots of time in his woodworking shop. He has created five pieces that I know of so far this year. His most recent creations are a harvest style table and a counter for the Visitor's Center that was built last year (2009).

The O'Hara Volunteers and, indeed, the greater community, contribute a great deal of energy and expertise to restoration, preservation and management of the O'Hara Mill Homestead. We have added this subsection to our web site as a means to show case the work of these dedicated people.
