September 14, 1797

James "Squire" O’Hara born in Manchester, Bennington Co., Vermont.  The second child of Patrick O’Hara, born in Londonderry, Ireland, and Cynthia Prindle.  "Squire" was acquired later in life.

1818?

James "Squire" O’Hara married Mary Healey.

1819?

Elizabeth born to James and Mary.

July 30, 1823

James, Mary and Elizabeth arrive in Madoc, Hastings Co., Ontario (from Vermont?). 

1826

James O’Hara born to James "Squire" O’Hara and Mary Healey.

1848?

  • ??James Jr married Mary Jane Lear of Maryberry, Prince Edward Co., Ontario??
  • O’Hara House built by James Jr and brother-in-law Ben Lear..

1850

James "Squire" O’Hara and son James enter partnership to build and operate O’Hara’s Mill at Lot 3, Concession 6, Madoc Township, Hastings County, Ontario.

February 19, 1851

Benjamin Lester O’Hara born to James and Mary Jane.

Commercial lumber production at the mill terminated although the saw mill was operated intermittently until about 1929.

1929

Saw mill last produced lumber.

1954

The mill and property purchased by the Moira River Conservation Authority.

1965

Conservation authority purchased the homestead from Minnie (O’Hara) Maines.

November 3, 2000

Group of interested individuals unite to form the O’Hara Volunteer Association.

2007

Log house moved and from east of Bancroft.

2008

  • Stone fireplace built for log house moved in 2007
  • Well drilled northeast of Mill.
  • O’Hara Volunteer Association Web Site development initiated.
  • Christmas at O’Hara’s – an 1840′s Christmas at the log house December 5th, 6th and 7th.
