Homestead Buildings

The O’Hara Mill Homestead contains several buildings in original or replica form which show how they were constructed, furnished and used in day to day life around the mill in the mid to late 1800’s.  These are:

  • the mill
  • the house
  • the carpenter shop
  • the carriage house
  • the blacksmith’s shop
  • three storage sheds

Demonstrations of early tasks, including woodworking, blacksmithing, and fireplace cooking are occasionally presented on special event days.  Please check our Events pages (under the Visitors > Events > Calendar tab) to find out when these demonstrations are being offered.

Buildings are typically open for viewing during the hours that the homestead is open (for clarity, the site is open for hiking and enjoying nature from dawn to dusk throughout the year but the homestead is staffed during limited hours only depending on the season and is closed during Winter – the 2009 hours are posted here).  If you would like an impromptu tour, just search out one of our student tour guides.  Tours can also be scheduled by telephone, mail or e-mail – please see our contact page.
