As we head into 2010 at the Mill, we have two special initiatives planned in addition to all of the routine preservation, maintenance and promotion tasks. The big one, of course, is the Mill Pond Dam Restoration Project. The second one is getting our machinery and tool restoration project off of the ground.
We have decided that we should provide a showcase here for the fruits of our restorers efforts. To get things rolling, Peter Sporring has been dealing with his Cabin Fever by getting out to the Mill and, well, tinkering. During a couple of his recent forays, in late February and early March, he dug out an old (1947 old) chainsaw and a broad axe head. I bet he came home with frogs in his pockets as a youngster. However, the chainsaw and broad axe head got some expert attention; just check out the results (chainsaw, broad axe).
Anyhow, as I was saying, we have a lot of unrestored machinery and tools, from chisels to a hulking stump puller/boulder transport, that we want to get with restoring this year. There will probably be several years of volunteer labour involved in the effort. As pieces are finished, we will showcase them here.
